Drafting a new Act to give effect to the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy

- National Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act, No.2 of 1996 which is presently in force has been amended at various instances and according to the present economic, social and environmental trends, it has been identified that further amendments should be made to the said Act. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa, the Minister of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development and Rural Economic Affairs, to draft a new Act incorporating the provisions to regulate, conserve and develop the fisheries industry, was approved by the Cabinet.
