Establishment of 5,000 Export Production Villages

- It has been planned to establish 5,000 Export Production Villages in the country under 02 stages, with the objective of promoting the primary products of farmers within the integrated process in order to accelerate the value added products of the primary products to suit the export market. The products suited for each village will be chosen based on the abundance of resources in them and it has been planned to provide training in the activities such as, securing funds required for farmers, technology, efficient resource utilization, farm management, harvesting, packaging and transportation and arrangements are made for them to gain access to the domestic and international markets. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Daya Gamage, the Minister of Social Welfare and Primary Industries, to implement this programme under the project for Research, Development and Promotional Programme for export development implemented under the Ministry of Social Welfare and Primary Industries and establish 1,000 Export Production villages within 300 Divisional Secretariat Divisions under its first stage, implement this project within the period of 2018 to 2020 and improve the total number of villages up to 5,000 in stages, was approved by the Cabinet.
