Providing the necessary facilities to enhance the productivity of the Coconut Industry

- Of the total extent of the coconut lands in the country 84% has been identified as small scale coconut lands of less than 20 acres in extent. As such, with a view to converting the coconut industry into more profitable and stable industry through minimizing the production cost by enhancing the productivity of the small scale coconut lands, the proposal made by Hon. Navin Dissanayake, the Minister of Plantation Industries, for seeking allocations required to provide coconut tree climbing devices, Mini Tillers used for fertilizer application, Red Weevil pheromone traps, Grass Cutters, Power Sprayers and Mini Choppers for chopping various parts of the coconut tree, to the coconut land owners and the members of the Kapruka Societies, was approved by the Cabinet.
