Providing a pair of shoes for the school children

- A programme for providing gift vouchers to 648,151 students of the difficult, the most difficult and the isolated schools in the remote, the most remote and the isolated areas to buy shoes, was successfully conducted in the year 2017. It was found that these children were provided with an opportunity to purchase a pair of shoes at their choice through this programme and it was a huge economic relief for their parents as well. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, to continue to implement this programme for the year 2018 as well, was approved by the Cabinet.
