Expansion of the Ashraff Jetty at the port of Trincomalee

- The necessity to upgrade the additional berthing space facility of the port of Trincomalee has been found, in order to fulfill the increasing demand for the container facilities of the port concurrent to the industrial development taking place in the Eastern and North Eastern Provinces. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe, the Minister of Ports and Shipping, to commence a project, to upgrade the Ashraff Jetty, which is the sole multipurpose terminal, presently being used for commercial activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
