National Trade Negotiating Committee

- The Government has focused its attention to gain access over to more preferential markets by diversifying the country's exports and to enter into Free Trade Agreements with various countries with the objective of attracting more foreign direct investments. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Malik Samarawickrema, the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, to establish a National Trade Negotiation Committee comprising of 17 representatives with competency in the relevant subject fields in order to ensure that the most beneficial conditions for the country are incorporated in such Agreements, was approved by the Cabinet.
