Relocation of the Matara Prison in the Kotawilawatta Area

- As the accommodation facilities in the Matara prison are not adequate, it has been planned to relocate the prison at the Kotawilawatta area. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Mrs.) Thalatha Atukorala, the Minister of Justice & Prison Reforms, to secure a sum of Rs.2,950 million within the Medium Term Budgetary Framework needed for the construction of the prison complex with basic facilities to accommodate 700 inmates including other facilities such as officers' quarters, barracks, water supply and electricity, CCTV and utilities, sewerage treatment and other facilities, was approved by the Cabinet.
