Proclamation and development of the Shrine of Our lady of Madu as a sacred area

- The Shrine of Our lady of Madu is a historic site of religious worship of the Catholic devotees and where devotees of other religions pay homage as well. As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, to launch special development projects encompassing this area inclusive of the protection of the religious place, proclamation of this Shrine of Our Lady of Madu as a sacred area, with the provision of necessary facilities for the visitors, developing transport facilities, road access, sanitation, drainage system and provision of special amenities such as accommodation, pilgrim rests for the people from the other areas visiting the Madu Shrine, treating it as a timely need, was approved by the Cabinet.
