Construction of a state-of-the-art high capacity store building for the Medical Supplies Division

- The Medical Supply Division (MSD) of the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine is entrusted with the responsibility of supplying of all items inclusive of pharmaceutical, surgical, laboratory and radioactive items to all Government Healthcare Institutions and further the MSD also supplies dangerous drugs to all private and Government hospitals including private medical clinics. Even though the MSD at Wellawatta, Colombo possesses 30 large warehouses and 06 distribution units, it has been found that adequate facilities are not available in the said Division for the effective functioning of the medical services. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, to construct a building with storage facilities in the premises of the National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases at Welisara within a land area of 04 acres with an investment of Rs.2,255 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
