Construction of the Kokilai Bridge

Construction of a new bridge and approaches across Kokilai Lagoon provides the people living in Trincomalee and its suburbs with an easy access to Jaffna and through which the distance of travel from Mullaitivu to Trincomalee will be reduced by around 80 km. Accordingly, the Joint proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, and Hon. Kabir Hashim, the Minister of Highways & Road Development, to award the Contract for the construction of Kokilai Bridge and approaches across Kokilai Lagoon on Mullaitivu - Kokilai - Pulmudai road, to Bilfinger MCE Slany s.r.o of Czech Republic for a sum of Euro 48.8 million as per the Cabinet decision made in 2014 in this regard, was approved by the Cabinet.
