Accelerated Programme for the issuance of Land Grants for state lands - (Agenda Item No.11)

- With a view to ensuring the land ownership of the people, the Government has issued more than 1.6 million of Land Permits up to now under the Land Development Ordinance and out of them, 930,082 have been converted into Land Grants. However, the surveys of the plots of land have to be carried out, in order to issue Land Grants for an extent of 700,000 more plots of land to which such permits have been issued as well as for an extent of 436,992 blocks of land for which Jayabhumi Land Grants have been issued. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs and Hon. Gayantha Karunathilaka, the Minister of Lands and Parliamentary Reforms, to implement an expeditious programme for the issuance of Land Grants for 1.1 million of plots of land within the period of 2019‑2020 and to provide facilities for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
