Gamperaliya - Rapid Rural Development Programme 2018 - 2019
- Infrastructure facilities through out the country were damaged due to the weather related disasters in the recent years and the decline in the general economic growth due to various challenges and thereby the people had to face difficulties with regard to livelihood developments. Therefore, the Government has decided to take necessary action for the livelihood development of people and to accelerate the economic development of the country by enhancing the essential infrastructure facilities. Accordingly, it has been planned to implement a rural development programme called 'Gamperaliya' covering all the districts in the country to develop the areas of work namely, Irrigation, Rural roads, School Sanitary Facilities and playgrounds, Sati Pola, Harita Uyana, Electricity, rehabilitation of religious and Archaeological places, housing development, issuing land deeds and entrepreneurship.
Accordingly, a programme is proposed to be implemented within a period of two years commencing from the third quarter of 2018. It is expected to provide Rs.200 million for each Divisional Secretariat Division to carryout the said development activities in the year 2018. The total investment for the purpose is Rs.65,811 million. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Mass Media, to expeditiously implement the proposed rural economic development programme 'Gamperaliya', was approved by the Cabinet.
