Providing permanent houses for conflict affected families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces
- The Cabinet approval has been granted previously for the programme of providing traditional brick and mortar type permanent houses to conflict affected families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to construct 25,000 housing units under Phase I of the project a sum of Rs.1.25 million per housing unit (without taxes) in the Northern and Eastern Provinces and out of which 15,000 houses to be commenced in 2018 and completed within period of 08 months and the balance of 10,000 houses to be completed in 2019, as recommended by the Cabinet Appointed Negotiating Committee (CANC) and the Procurement Committee (PC) and to enter into the Agreement with the UNOPS and UN‑Habitat led Consortium for the construction of such houses, was approved by the Cabinet.
