Ensuring the proper functioning of the rental housing market

- An Experts' Committee has been appointed to submit recommendations pertaining to the functioning of rental housing market at an optimum level considering the requirement of providing rental housing at a price affordable to those moving to the city due to the urbanization, employees and young families. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Sajith Premadasa, the Minister of Housing and Construction, to draft necessary legislation to ensure the proper functioning of rental housing market taking into consideration the matters such as regulation of rental housing market, increase the provision of rental housing and designing such houses at a rate affordable to the women and elders as per the recommendation of said Committee, was approved by the Cabinet.
