Securing Funds for the construction of the Central Expressway section from Pothuhera to Galagedara

- It has been proposed to construct the Central Expressway by further expanding the existing Expressway network, in order to link Colombo and Kandy via Pothuhera. Through this, an uninterrupted connectivity will be created from down South of the Island to Kandy, linking the Port, Airport and Commercial Cities and several provinces of economic importance. Arrangements have been made to construct phase 3 of the Central Expressway, the section from Pothuhera to Galagedara 32.5 km in length under the Japanese Banks financing. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to enter into an Agreement with the MUFG Bank Ltd. of Japan to secure funds amounting to Japanese Yen 100 billion required for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
