Establishment of Educational Institutions for the Buddhist Dasa Sil Matha

- At present there are approximately 4,000 Dasa Sil Matha residing in Sri Lanka and their educational activities are being carried out by several educational institutions which function at voluntary level without Government assistance. Presently, necessary measures are being taken to amend the Pirivena Education Act, No.64 of 1979, in order to provide the said institutions with the assistance and the sponsorship required thereto by the Government. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Minister of Education, to register the institutions which provide education to Dasa Sil Matha as “Educational Institutions for Buddhist Dasa Sil Matha” and provide the said institutions with necessary facilities until the amendments are made to the above Act, was approved by the Cabinet.
