Report on Public Sector Cadre for the First Quarter of the Year 2018

- In accordance with the decision taken previously by the Cabinet, the changes taking place in the Public Sector cadre due to the recruitment, transfers, vacation of posts, dismissal, retirement, resignation and death of officers in all public institutions should be updated and maintained and such information has to be submitted to the Cabinet, for consideration. In accordance with the Note submitted by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Mass Media, 9,851 personnel have been newly recruited to the public sector and 7,755 public officers have left office due to retirement, resignation, vacation of post, dismissal or death, during the first quarter of the year 2018. Besides, the Provincial Councils have employed 7,840 persons outside the approved cadre and the necessity for all public sector institutions to adhere to a national policy on salary has also been pinpointed. The above information submitted by the Note to the Cabinet was noted by the Cabinet and the Cabinet also emphasized the fact that the Heads of the Institutions are held accountable for the recruitment of employees outside the approved cadre without specific approval.
