Establishment of the Office for Reparations

- The approval of the Cabinet has been granted to draft legislation to establish an Office for Reparation to identify suitable persons for reparation and to carry out the reparation activities pertaining to the payment of compensation to those who were harmed due to getting caught in conflict situations, political unrest, civil commotion, forcible disappearance and various other causes, in a more formalized and a transparent manner. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister, to publish the draft Bill for the establishment of the office for Reparations prepared by the Legal Draftsman in the Government Gazette and subsequently, present the same in Parliament for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
