Obtaining the Membership of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) by Sri Lanka

- This Multinational Forum was established in the year 1992 to enhance cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in the Asian region. As of now, Sri Lanka is working as an observer country of this conference where 26 countries including India, China and Russia have obtained the membership. China which holds the current Chairmanship of the Conference has invited Sri Lanka to obtain the full pledged membership of the conference and thereby, Sri Lanka has got the opportunity to further develop interaction with all member states. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Thilak Marapana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, for Sri Lanka to obtain the membership of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), was approved by the Cabinet.
