Expansion and improvement of Daycare facilities for children

- The need for taking measures for the expansion and improvement of Daycare facilities for children having been drawn to the attention of the Cabinet, prior to this, by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, a Committee comprising of the representatives of the institutions of the relevant field, was appointed by the Cabinet, to make the necessary recommendations in that regard to the Cabinet.

Accordingly, the joint proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, and Hon. (Mrs.) Chandrani Bandara, the Minister of Women and Child Affairs, to take the necessary steps to implement professional training programmes offering a relevant NVQ level for childcare givers with the consensus of the relevant stakeholders, to encourage the youth to follow the child care courses through the provision of soft loan facilities under the Government loan schemes and to introduce a concessionary loan scheme up to a sum of Rs.02 million for the youth trained in the process, to establish daycare centres, was approved by the Cabinet.
