Implementation of the 'Suraksha' Health Care Insurance Scheme for School Children during the period 2018/2019

- An insurance scheme has been implemented under the 'Suraksha' Health Care Insurance Scheme for all school children between the age of 05 - 19, in accordance with the Budget proposal 2017 and accordingly, a health care insurance certificate valued at Rs.200,000/- will be provided for every child. The Insurance Scheme will grant up to Rs.100,000/- for indoor patients treatments and Rs.10,000/- for outdoor patients treatments. The Insurance Scheme is presently implemented by the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and provisions have been allocated to implement the said Insurance Scheme during the year 2018/2019 as well.

Accordingly, taking into consideration, a proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, pertaining to the selection of a suitable insurance institution, to take measures to call for proposals from Government Insurance Institutions and to select an Insurance Institution which will provide more benefits to the school children, was approved by the Cabinet.
