Traditional Brick and Mortar Type Permanent Housing Programme for conflict affected families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces
- The approval of the Cabinet has been granted to construct 50,000 Traditional Brick and Mortar Type Houses to the families affected during the conflict of Northern and Eastern Provinces. For this purpose, proposals were called for from the contractors and out of such proposals, the proposals presented by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) led non‑profit oriented humanitarian organizations consortium with 3 options, has been recommended by the Negotiation Committee appointed by the Cabinet as being most advantageous.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to take future action in accordance with the proposal made by the said consortium to construct 25,000 of the said type of houses in the Districts of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaithivu, Trincomalee and Batticaloa under Phase 1 of the project, was approved by the Cabinet.
