Conducting of the Co-operative Conference on Asian Press Councils in Sri Lanka

- The Sri Lanka Press Council takes action to conduct awareness workshops and seminars aimed at creating a positive media culture in the country, and to secure the press freedom as well as the rights of the public. In this context, it has been proposed to host the Asia Press Council Cooperative Conference in Sri Lanka, considering the benefits accrued such as the promotion of cooperation among Press Councils and the Media Councils in the countries of the South Asian Region, creating awareness of global trends and expanding the training opportunities for professional journalists and the trainee journalists.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Mass Media, to host the proposed Asian Press Council Cooperative Conference in October 2018 in Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
