Alienation of lands vested in the Land Reform Commission to outsiders and institutions on Lease Basis

- In terms of the provisions of the Land Reform Act No.01 of 1992 the alienation of lands vested in the Land Reform Commission for commercial and agricultural purposes should be done with the approval of the subject Minister. However, it has been decided in the year 2011 that the approval of the Cabinet should be obtained for the purpose, in all instances except in exceptional situations. The Cabinet decided that the Minister in-charge to whom the subject of Land Reform Commission is assigned may select the beneficiaries for the alienation of land up to a maximum of 05 acres, subject to a mechanism being used to select the suitable persons in a more transparent manner based on the recommendations of a Senior Officials' Committee.
