Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2018-05-15

Securing of funds for the supply of Medical Equipment required for the Medical Faculties of Rajarata and Eastern Universities and the Faculty of Allied Health Science of the University of Peradeniya

- The standard of the health care status of Sri Lanka is higher in comparison to the other countries of the region. The free education system and the free health services prevalent in Sri Lanka have greatly impacted towards this situation and the aim of the Government is to provide a higher quality free health and education. In this contest, a proposal has been made to provide the medical equipment required for the Medical Faculties of Rajarata and the Eastern Universities and the Faculty of Allide Health Science of the University of Peradeniya. The UniCredit Bank of Austria, A.G. has agreed to provide a loan of Euro 4.9 million to meet the expenditure required for the purpose. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to enter into the relevant loan agreement, was approved by the Cabinet.
