Implementation of 03 Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Power Plants as Joint Venture Projects with the Governments of Japan, India and China and the Government of Sri Lanka
China, Japan and India have expressed their willingness to sponsor to establish 03 Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Power Plants in Sri Lanka on Government to Government basis. Taking into consideration the increase in demand for Renewable Energy after the year 2021 and the recommendation of the National Economic Council, the proposal made by the Hon. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, to take future measures necessary for the construction of a 400 MW LNG power plant in the Hambantota area, with the collaboration of the Government of China, a 500 MW LNG power plant with the collaboration of the Government of Japan and a 500 MW LNG power plant with the collaboration of the Government of India, was approved by the Cabinet.
