Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2018-05-09
Conducting of the Regional Symposium on Sustainable Development Goal -'Life below Water' (Blue SDG) on 21st and 22nd June 2018 in Colombo
It has been found that, the fisheries industry is able to contribute a great deal in achieving the goals coming under the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations such as eradication of poverty etc. As such, the importance of being prepared collectively in facing challenges and achieving the Life below Water or Blue Sustainable Development Goals has been emphasized.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the then Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development also taking into consideration the concurrence given by Hon. Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa, the present Minister of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development and Rural Economic Affairs, to host a Regional Symposium on Blue Sustainable Development Goals with the participation of the representatives of the coastal nations of the region on 21st and 22nd of June 2018 in Sri Lanka and to obtain the donor award of Rs 3.48 million granted by the Government of Norway, in order to cover the expenditure incurred for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
