Purchase of the machinery required for enhancing the performance of the Department of Government Factory

The Department of Government Factory is a pioneering institution which supplies Mechanical Engineering Services to the public and private sector and especially, its Heavy Fabrication and Mechanical Workshop provides large structures and the necessary engineering products and services required for the irrigation sector. With the development of the country's irrigation industry, the demand for the construction, fixing and refurbishing of irrigation water management sluice gates is in the increase and to meet the demand it has been identified that the production capacity of the workshop has to be enhanced.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Sajith Premadasa, the Minister of Housing and Construction, to purchase a Plano Miller and a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine which could be operated by computer required for the Heavy Structural Machinery Division, was approved by the Cabinet.
