Upgrading the functions of the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (IFMT)
The Institute of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (IFMT) of the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, performs a significant role in conducting autopsies. A proposal has been made to implement a programme with the collaboration of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with a view to enhancing the quality of the operations of the said Institute through standardization and centralization of autopsy associated operations and training of non‑medical staff. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, to sign a Letter of Agreement between the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine and the International Committee of the Red Cross in Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
