The Draft Bill on Apartment Ownership (Special Provisions)

- The Legal Draftsman has prepared the relevant 'Draft Bill' in accordance with the approval granted by the Cabinet to enact the Draft Apartment Ownership (Special Provisions) Act, considering the timely needs. By this, it is expected to provide remedies to the provisions contained in the existing Draft Apartment Ownership (Special Provisions) Act which has been an impediment to vest the title of the condominium houses constructed by the National Housing Development Authority and the other State Institutions prior to 2009, with the residents living in such houses. It also expects to provide provisions for the safety of the state owned condominium properties.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Sajith Premadasa, the Minister of Housing and Construction, to publish the Draft Apartment Ownership (Special Provisions) Bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently, present it in Parliament, for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
