Strengthening the Corporation in Science and Technology among the countries associated with the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC)

- In the second summit of the BIMSTEC held in India in the year 2008, it was decided to establish a Technology Transfer Facility in Sri Lanka for the member states of the BIMSTEC. Through this facility it is proposed to exchange experiences among the member states in regard to biotechnology, nanotechnology, information and communications technology and space technology and to strengthen the corporation among member states for capacity building. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Susil Premajayantha, the Minister of Science, Technology and Research, to sign the Memorandum of Association and securing the funds required for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
