Amendments to the Maternity Benefits Ordinance, No.32 of 1939 and the Shop and the Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) Act, No.9 of 1954

- The need to take corrective measures to remove the discrepancies in the Maternity Benefits Ordinance, No.32 of 1939 relevant to the payment of maternity benefits to a female worker during her confinement and the Shop and the Office Employees (Regulation of Employment and Remuneration) Act, No.9 of 1954 has been recognized. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. W.D.J. Seneviratne, the Minister of Labour, Trade Union Relations and Sabaragamu Development, to publish the two draft amendment Bills prepared by the Legal Draftsman in the Government Gazette and subsequently, present them in Parliament, for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
