Amendment of Chemical Weapons Convention Act, No.58 of 2007
- Chemical Weapons Convention Act, No.58 of 2007 has been enacted in order to implement the provisions of the Convention relating to the prohibition of the development, production, stockpiling and the use of chemical weapons and their destruction in Sri Lanka. In terms of the provisions of the Act, the relevant subject matter Minister named for the implementation of the provisions of the Act, is the Minister of Industry and Commerce.



Since the National Chemical Weapons Convention is a subject matter directly relevant to the National Security, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to instruct the Legal Draftsman to amend the Chemical Weapons Convention Act No.58 of 2007 incorporating the Minister of Defence as the Minister in‑charge of the subject, was approved by the Cabinet.
