Formulation of a Joint-Programme for the Administration of Provincial and District Sports Complexes

A project is being implemented by the Government to construct 09 Provincial Sports Complexes and 16 District Sports Complexes, covering the entire Island with a view to creating rural athletes who will excel in international events through the establishment of sports infrastructure facilities. Under this project, 04 Provincial Sports Complexes constructed in areas such as Anuradhapura, Badulla, Trincomalee and Kandy as well as 05 District Sports Complexes constructed in areas such as Kalutara, Matara, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa and Jaffna, have been vested with the public. It is anticipated to finalize the construction of the other Sports Complexes also, within this year.

As such, the proposal made by Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, the Minister of Sports, to formulate a proper mechanism for the formal administration of these Sports Complexes, was approved by the Cabinet
