General Education Modernization Project (funded by the World Bank)

Along with the globalization and the rapid progress in the technology, it has been recognized that the General Education will lay the foundation for producing the human resource of a country to suit the economic and social activities. Accordingly, in order to suit the future requirements of Sri Lanka, the World Bank has given its concurrence to grant a concessionary loan of US$ 100 million for the implementation of a General Education Modernization Project, for modernizing and enhancing the quality of General Education. As such, to befits needs of the present labour market, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, to implement the proposed project with a view to developing human capital with skills and training, was approved by the Cabinet
