Establishment of a Divisional Office in Kurunegala for the Department of Buddhist Affairs

Taking into consideration the special religious activities and the significance of the places of worship, two divisional offices of the Department of Buddhist Affairs have been established in the districts of Kandy and Rathnapura. Important places of worship are located in the North, North Central and North Western Provinces. In the above Provinces, 54 places of worship where the administrative activities are being directly carried out by the Department of Buddhist Affairs and a total of 2,364 temples are located. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, the Minister of Buddhasasana, to establish a divisional office of the Department of Buddhist Affairs in the Kurunegala District, in order to fulfill the official duties and related services to the places of worship and temples, was approved by the Cabinet
