Execution of the Strategic Plan relevant to Sri Lanka in the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)
- The Government of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), has successfully completed a large number of various programmes since the year 1968. The following objectives are expected to be achieved by the implementation of the the strategic programmes planned by the Government of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), during the period from 2018 - 2022 in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Framework.

* Supply of food all year round for the people affected by crisis situations;

* Supply of food all year round for the children of school going age in the food insecure areas;

* Improvement of the nutrition of children under 5 years, adolescent girls and women of the reproductive age, by the year 2025;

* Strengthen the livelihood of easily vulnerable communities and the smallholder farmers to develop the ability of facing the risk situations;

The World Food Programme has expressed its willingness to provide US$ 46.8 million for the implementation of the said strategic plan. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Food Programme to obtain the grant aid and to get the strategic plan executed through the relevant line Ministries, was approved by the Cabinet.
