Construction of the Vavunathivu Solar Power Plant

- Since the Solar Power Plant with a 10MW capacity proposed to be built in Valachchanai area is to be connected with the Vavunathivu grid sub‑station, it will be named as the 'Vavunathivu Solar Power Plant'. Bids have been called for, for the construction of the said Solar Power Plant and 17 institutions have submitted their bids in this regard.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, to award the contract to Build, Own and Operate the 'Vavunathivu Solar Power Plant' to M/s Ex-Pack Corrugated Cartons (Pvt.) Ltd., which has submitted the minimum cost at the rate of Rs.11.86 per KW hour, as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), was approved by the Cabinet.
