Procurement of 100MW of Supplementary Power to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the County

- Due to the inadequate rain fall that prevails, the fall of water level of the reservoirs could be expected within the next 06 months and it has been identified that this could be an obstruction for an uninterrupted supply of power. As such, the approval of the Cabinet has been granted to purchase supplementary power of 100MW through a short term power purchase agreement and in the meantime, bids have been called adopting the International competitive bidding for the purpose.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, to purchase a 56MW power supply from M/s Aggreko International Projects Limited at the rate of Rs.28.063 per KW hour and to purchase a 44 MW power supply from M/s Hayleys Aventura (Pvt.) Limited & SES Smart Energy Solutions Fzco at the rate of Rs.28.367 per KW hour for a period of 06 months, as recommended by the Cabinet Appointed Negotiation Committee, was approved by the Cabinet.
