Construction of the Kaluganga - Moragahakanda Transfer Canal (KMTC) under the Upper Elahera Canal Construction Project

- The Design and Build Contract for the Transfer Canal comprising of two tunnels 8km in length from the Kalu Ganga Tank to Moragahakanda Tank, open canal way, aqueducts and the associated structures, which fall under the purview of the Upper Elahera Canal Project is implemented under the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Programme. As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to award the construction contract to Sinohydro Corporation Limited of China, for a sum of Rs.6,111.91 million, as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee, was approved by the Cabinet.
