Raising Funds for the construction of the Multi-model Center in Makumbura

- Construction activities of the Makumbura Multi-model Centre is in progress at present. It is expected to provide a more efficient and cost effective public transport facilities through the transport center constructed with the amalgamation of the transport modes from railway to long distance and local bus services.

It has been estimated that, Rs.306.79 million will be incurred to prepare an operational mechanism required for transport management, operation and maintenance of the Multi-model Transport Centre and providing necessary information for the commuters. Therefore, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, for the proposed construction of the Makumbura Multi-model centre by utilizing the remaining unused balance of the credit facility obtained from the Japan International Corporation Agency, for the activities of Phase 2 of the Outer Circular Highway Development Project, was approved by the Cabinet.
