Establishment of the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) Sub-Regional Hub in Sri Lanka

- A proposal has been made to establish the Sub-Regional Hub of the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (RIMES) of the South East Asian Region in Sri Lanka, which is an international institution working for the capacity building of the member countries in generating and utilizing user-relevant science based information for early warning of risks from natural hazards.

Considering the contribution that could be made to strengthen the technological capability and the capacity, of the Department of Meteorology of Sri Lanka by this manoevure, the proposal made by Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, the Minister of Disaster Management, to construct a two storeyed building in the premises of the Department of Meteorology to establish the said sub‑regional centre in Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
