Amendment of the Explosives Ordinance, No.21 of 1956

- The importation of explosives and its regulation activates are carried out under the Explosives Ordinance. Considering the timely requirements, it has been proposed to amend the Ordinance. As such, focus has been made to amend the Explosives Ordinance, No.21 of 1956 incorporating the amendments for granting approval for the foreign ships or air crafts carrying either explosives or related cargo to travel across sea area or air zone of Sri Lanka, indicating the post of 'Controller of Explosives' as 'Controller General of Explosives' in the Act and incorporating better methodologies in the Act to suit the present needs. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to appoint an Officials' Committee representing the relevant institutions to seek proposals for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
