Vesting the authority with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery Or Corruption (CIABOC) to file cases based on the facts revealed by the Commissions of Inquiry
- The necessity has arisen to provide legal provisions to enable to vest the authority with the Director General of the CIABOC for instituting cases under the Bribery Act or the Assets and Liabilities Law, based on the facts revealed by such Commissions of Inquiry established under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, No.17 of 1948.

The Legal Draftsman has drafted the relevant amendments for the purpose, to amend the Commissions of Inquiry Act, No.17 of 1948. The Attorney General has advised that the said draft would have to be passed by a special majority of not less than two thirds of Parliament. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, to publish the Commissions of Inquiry (Amendment) Bill in the Government Gazette and to present the same subsequently, in Parliament, for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
