Stabilizing the coastline from Mount Lavinia to Angulana under the Colombo South Sand Nourishment Project
- Approval of the Cabinet has been granted to implement a project for stabilizing the coastline by way of the Sand Engine Methodology in the coastline from Colpetty to Mount Lavinia, covering the coastlines of Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala, Ratmalana Wedikanda and Moratuwa which have been identified as places subjected to sea erosion in the West coastline.

It has been planned to stabilize the coastline from Mount Lavinia to Angulana about 5.5 km in length through sand nourishment, utilizing the provision of Rs.800 million allocated by the Budget 2018 for the Southern Colombo Sand Nourishment Project implemented for the purpose. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to select a suitable contractor for the implementation of the Project under the International Competitive Bidding Procedure, was approved by the Cabinet in principle.
