Draft Bill on Carriage By Air

- The objective of 'the Convention on the Unification of certain Rules for International Carriage By Air' is to grant the unification and predictability required for the rules pertaining to international carriage of passengers, luggage and cargo by air. Sri Lanka is a party to the Convention which has been entered into in Montreal in the year 1988.

A draft Bill has been submitted to the Cabinet in a previous occasion for giving effect to the said Convention in Sri Lanka and the Cabinet had referred the matter to the Cabinet Sub‑Committee on Constitutional Affairs. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, to publish the draft Bill on Carriage By Air formulated by the Legal Draftsman incorporating the recommendations of the said Sub‑Committee in the Government Gazette and thereafter to present same in Parliament, for approval, was approved by the Cabinet.
