'Ape Suwaya - Rate Saviya' (Our Health is the Country's Strength) National Health Promotion Programme

- It has been proposed to implement a National Programme called 'Ape Suwaya - Rate Saviya' (Our Health is the Country's Strength), with a view to relieving the people of Sri Lanka from the unfortunate situation they have fallen into due to the prevailing non‑communicable diseases and making them healthy and thereby creating a country with a strong economy through the commencement of community health development programmes, at rural level, for the prevention of communicable diseases. As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, to implement this programme by the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine in collaboration with the relevant Ministries and other Institutions under the purview of a special operational unit to be setup in the Presidential Secretariat and to commence same as a pilot project in the Districts of Polonnaruwa, Kalutara, Moneragala, Badulla, Batticaloa and Kilinochchi effective from the month of February of this year, was approved by the Cabinet.
