Establishment of an Office of the 'Delegation of German Industry and Commerce' in Sri Lanka
- The policy of the Government is to obtain the maximum economic benefits through the integration into the global economy and therefore, a key strategy under the said policy is the establishment of effective partnerships in countries with advanced economies. As such, it has been proposed to establish an office of the 'Delegation of German Industry and Commerce' in Colombo with a view to promoting co-operation and partnership among the trading companies, organizations and persons engaged in the commercial field in Germany as well as in Sri Lanka.

By the establishment of such an office in Sri Lanka, it would create greater assistance for facilitating the promotion of commercial activities between the two countries covering specially, the small and medium size industries, thereby opening up new opportunities for the investors of both countries. Accordingly, the joint proposal made by Hon. Thilak Marapana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Hon. Malik Samarawickrema, the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, to provide facilities for the establishment of an office of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Colombo, was approved by the Cabinet.
