Obtaining Additional Loan Assistance from the Asian Development Bank for the implementation of the Skills Sector Enhancement Programme

- 'The Skills Sector Development Programme', which has been planned by the Government within the period from 2014 to 2020, with a view to creating an efficient Skills Development Methodology to meet the labour market demand, is implemented under the Loan Assistance obtained from the Asian Development Bank, for the purpose of assisting the 'Skills Sector Development Programme'. Through this programme, it is anticipated to achieve the goals such as improved quality of Provision of Tertiary Vocational Education and Training, (TVET), enhanced industry partnership for TVET, policy and the implementation of Institutional and Operational Reforms. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to conduct negotiations to obtain US$ 100 million from the Asian Development Bank and to enter into the relevant loan agreements, was approved by the Cabinet.
