Establishment of a 'Think Tank Forum' for the promotion of the Fisheries Industry

- The importance of making group decisions has been identified for the purposes of formulation of policies pertaining to the management and sustainable utilization of the marine resources of Sri Lanka, modernization of the Fisheries and Marine Tourism Sector, inclusive of the realization of aspirations, with a view to achieving economic development. In this regard, it has been proposed to establish a Think Tank Forum to enable to take decisions, taking into account the views and proposals of the experts and research data.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, to establish a Think Tank Forum comprising of the economic experts, environmentalists, legal experts, marine engineers, naval and guided wave technicians, sociologists, representatives of the fisheries and tourism sectors and fishermen, under the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, was approved by the Cabinet.
